The Gifts of All Artists Will Live On

Recently, Cathy from: The Voice Within posted a YouTube video featuring The Carpenters.

It still brings tears to my eyes, seeing the lovely Karen and her dashing brother Richard. Thinking about the circumstances that ended her life much too early and the loss to her family and all the world.

I also thought about the gifts that this brother and sister shared that will live on forever. Their timeless melodies, romantic and thoughtful lyrics and most of all, Karen's hauntingly beautiful voice.

How many married lives began to the strains of this classic: For All We Know

No matter what tragedies that may come into the life of any artist; the gifts that they bring to the world will remain. It's something that makes the sadness a little easier to think about. There will be joy along with the tears. Hope along with the sadness. A legacy that no one can take away.

And for generations to come: the song, the book, the painting, the poem, the words...they will never die. And in the case of Karen Carpenter; a personal, very tragic story that will probably continue to save many young lives, being re-told again and again.

Rest well dear Karen. You will never be forgotten.

That is so true my dear G.,,,I had a cd made by my son of all my favorites songs, well that I could remember and three of those are from the carpenters...and I hear them everymorning as I play the cd to my 45 minute jogging...there's Sing a Song, Rainy days and Mondays and I cry along :)

It's true, they live on but boy I wish she was still around. And isn't it odd that we can be huge pink floyd and led zepplin fans and still love the pop music like the Carpenters. It's timeless and really will live on forever.

I find it interesting that there are so many forgettable songs from the 80's and 90's but the 60's and 70's music has that special something that sticks with us. In 50 years the Carpenters and the Beatles will still be recognised as the greats.

Hey, I agree with your post and every comment. David and I were just watching The Carpenters on you tube the other day. What a lot of beauty she left behind.

Hi Lorraine, They were a duet that many people could relate to it seems, then and now. Theire music struck a chord with so many. From the heart. On a lighter note, don't you love seeing clothes and hairstyles from the 70's? Amazing how styles change but I guess in a form, they'll probably be seen again too. Off the topic...

Hi Cathy, Yes, so tru. I loved Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin but I also loved/love the Carpenters too. Their music has endured so well. And what a treasure it is to watch the YouTube videos. Sad but so touching. And the Beatles, well they are in a class of their own I think. Never, never get stale. The kids coming up now love them too, how cool is that.

Hi SandyL, So nice to see you back, you've been missed.

Happy Friday, G :<)

Young people will continue to learn from the tragedy that happened in Karen Carpenter's life. So very sad. But their music and their gifts will continue forever. They will not be forgotten.

Hi Tammie, I'm so glad you enjoyed this post!

Hi SandyC, I've played this video several times this week. I actually stop doing everything (hard for me) and really savor the music and karen's incredible voice. I agree, a horrible loss.

Hi Joe, Eating disorders are still so prevalent and so harmful. Even though all this happened many years ago, I'm sure Karen's story is helping this generation and that will continue. In addition to the music that she brought to the world.

Hugs, G
