Empathy.
What a blessing and gift it can be, when someone takes the time and reaches out to us to say:
" I care, I understand, I'm sorry for what you are going through...."
It can mean so much. It can change our perception and attitude towards a difficult situation we are struggling with. For me, it's been the difference so many times between coping and despair.
I don't think we should ever underestimate the power of empathy. It is a force for good.
And in case you ever wondered what the difference between empathy and sympathy is, this is what I found over at the Free Dictionary site:
empathy/sympathy - Empathy denotes a deep emotional understanding of another's feelings or problems, while sympathy is more general and can apply to small annoyances or setbacks.

Geraldine,
this is such a nice post this week. The photo is beautiful.
And Empathy is a very good word.
When teaching young children (2 year olds), where I work at the daycare, that is my number 1 consideration. What I am always most concerned with is helping the children try to feel for their friends.
I know my life has always turned around for the better when a wise and kind person has shown understanding.
Thanks for this great word, and post!
Have a great week!
Brenda
Thanks for sharing the difference between empathy and sympathy. Everyone should show empathy towards other people in their life but it's not always the case. A beautiful photo and great post.
Hi! *waves* Great post you guys!
empathy is a powerful tool. that doesn't mean someone can necessarily use empathy, though someone undoubtedly could. but to actually be empathetic means to make a serious connection and that does have staying power in my experience.
Hi Brenda, It's a great idea to start children off with these kinds of "tools" for life. Over the years, interacting with young children along the way, it was very obvious most times, which ones had been taught well, in this regard. It's touching to see empathy and kindness at work, when it comes to children in particular. I'm glad you enjoyed the post.
Hi Joe, I always think of white flowers and peace going together. I'm glad you enjoyed this post too.
Hi Rumpy, Just me writing this time. Cheddar is taking a day off to regroup. He's got some more reviews in the works, can be tiring!!! LOL
Hi Ed, You've brought up a great point here. Empathy, real empathy is all about a "serious connection" between people. Or people and animals of all kinds too. It is powerful when it's real, that I know for sure.
Wishing you a wonderful week, G
G, empathy is one of my favorite words!
I've had many people in my life that have shared their empathy with me and for that I am most grateful!
Wonderful post!
Thank you!
Hugs
Margie :)
One thing about empathy we can feel it without even trying. It's just there when we see it and feel it. Acting on it is so important for the other person.
Wonderful choice of word.
it's a wonderful feeling when someone "gets you"
Hi Margie, And I'm sure you've helped a lot of people with support and encouragement along the way too. It definitely is a circle, it works both ways.
Hi Teri, Yes, a kind and caring person does radiate a good presence that is "just there" I agree. But there's also those times when someone really steps up and goes that extra mile to be helpful and kind. Memorable. I've tried to do that myself and I've had people return the favor over the years, many times.
Hi Dianne, Absolutely! Isn't it great?
Have a wonderful week and thanks for your thoughtful comments. Always appreciated, G
