Word of the Week: Weeds

Life’s garden of weeds.
Sometimes the stalks grow high.
The leaves unruly and untamed.
Crowding out our vision, view and desire to renew.

On (too) many a day.
So hard to see above and beyond.
But weeds have a lesson to teach;
unique and of themselves.

They remind us that what we see is not always…
what we get.
What we perceive often hides,
the true picture and final story.

Searching for the serenity and beauty to be found.
In the access and opportunities denied.
Perhaps, the road not travelled.

It is there, although at times,
hard to understand.
Often seen as trials.
Some days, impossible to bear.

Life’s garden of weeds.
Futilely, we pull, strain and tug.
Instead of finding the patience required to,
wait out the storm.

Once again,
to bask in the glorious sunshine.
A re-awakening required.

There are no mistakes that cannot be healed.
Soaking up the seeds of growth.
To reappear as the most beautiful of blooms.
Sharing their timely and timeless wisdom.

Life is like that. The struggles like the weeds are part of life and we have to keep on trying and not give up. Wonderful poem.

love your words you have done a beautiful insight of this...yes I think that they have a lesson to teach and that that what we see is not always ...what we get...

I love the "Life's garden of weeds" idea. And what a fine ending. What is one person's weed is another's wildflower.
..
We were in Ireland that day. The next is significant for me, I fell at Powerscourt Estate Gardens, broke my knee cap, and had to come back to the U.S. We did come back to Powerscourt in 2009.

Thank you for this, Geraldine. I know how it is to move through time as a mistake heals... Seems that is the shape of my life. Your poem is beautiful.
