Finding Your Own Power Symbol

Do you have a personal power symbol?

An object or image that you focus on during times of difficulty or stress? I've been reading about this subject more and more recently, including this excellent article: Personal Power Symbol.

I kept noting hearts coming up in my life, more and more lately. In photos, the chocolate box(es!!!) left over from Valentine's Day (yes, there was more than one box!LOL) and also several recent misspellings of my last name, instead of Hart...Heart showing up on packages, emails, labels. Noting them in store windows etc.

I think it's an excellent symbol for me and I am now featuring hearts wherever I can,  to keep this positive symbol close at hand and something I can look at and focus on, even when I'm not feeling stressed at all. And lately, the stress level has really been going down for me. Due in large part to making a real effort to focus on the positive,  to "deal with and drop" the negative asap throughout the day and to show/reflect on gratitude on many levels.

I don't think it's realistic for anyone to expect a life without cares, burdens or worries. Authors who preach this kind of message are in my opinion doing a great disservice to their readers. Also, implying that every thing that comes into our lives is the direct result of our own wishes and manifestations. Again, I think it's just so wrong and misleading. That is as if to imply that the disasters (such as now in Japan) that impact the lives of innocent, average people are their fault. No, No, NO!

Ok, I digress...back to symbols.

Do you have a personal power symbol? If you don't, perhaps you might want to give this a try. If you already have a symbol, please share it in a comment here and if you can, explain why you chose this particular symbol. I'd love to hear about your choice.

Good Morning!! We had snow last night as well- and note- our weekend temps were in the high 60's. Typical! And as for the desktop image- I stepped away from the computer last year and when I came back a pic of one of our dogs was the desktop image. IHNC how it got there- no one was around. It makes me laugh every time I see it thinking of Abbey (the dog) doing it herself)- so I have left it. Power symbols- mine is the dragonfly. Love to see/and find them and look for them in jewelry as well! The idea about them is wonderful! Happy Spring and Thursday~~~ Hugs!

Morning, my power symbol isn't a thing per se, it's a colour. Purple energises me. It makes me happy and uplifted whenever I see it. In fact my hubby got me purple silk flowers as part of my birthday gifts and they look almost real! I was like OMG where did he find these in the winter?! They're better than real at this time of year cos I can look at them all the time and feel inspired.

What an interesting question. Mine has been 'daisies' for as long as I can remember. I just love them and they find their way into my art all the time. Right down to naming my art blog, Painted Daisies. I always feel inspired when I see daisies!

I think mine might be a color, too. Cobalt blue Interesting!

Hi Patti, Oh, I love your choice for a symbol, I am a big fan of dragonflies, they are so unusual, colorful and beautiful. Something magical about these insects, like butterflies. Maybe Abbey is computer savvy!!!

Hi Cathy, Purple, is supposedly a very powerful color, good choice. And something to consider about symbols overall, I guess they wouldn't have to be an object or shape. Interesting. Your husband sounds like a very nice guy!

Hi Teri, Daisies always make me smile. Your blog does too. When I see daisies I always think of freshness, coolness,a respite from heat/cares etc...great choice for a symbol too!

Hi SandyL, Ohhh...love it! I told you more about my affinity to this gorgeous color over at your blog. When I see it, my mom always comes to mind.

Hugs to all of you, G

I think it's a great idea to have a personal symbol. I'm still thinking about one for myself.

Geraldine,
I have been reflecting on a symbol that I turn to at moments of need or which sustains me in ordinary times, and just now think one has come back to me - the sunflower. I just love sunflowers - their look, their smell, their relatively ease of growing in most conditions, their usefulness to birds...I turned to growing sunflowers in 2005 after Mom passed on. The August before she died we'd been discussing what I might do with my woeful backyard, I'd thought of a wildflower garden, just sprinkling poppy seeds, bachelor buttons (a personal favourite), and I already had a kind of daisy which grew naturally in the yard - and Mom casually said "And sunflowers?" - and so sunflowers became my tribute to her.

One year my sunflowers were just lovely, several different kinds in reds, oranges, golds, and of course the tall yellow ones - and some grew to 6 and 7 feet - and that fall I would spend my evenings hidden by the sunflowers in my backyard watching the sun set, listening to the birds settle for the night, enjoying the company of Herbert my cat (who loved to be out with me on a cat line, and savouring the end of the season.

Sorry for the lengthiness, thanks for starting me thinking!

Hi SandyC, You are so nice, thank you for your continued support, feedback and also sharing so much beauty with the world. as you say on your blog, it's all good!

Hi Joe, I hope you find the perfect one, I think it's a great idea. And when you do, your symbol will probably appear again and again. That's happened to me re: hearts and it's so special.

Hi Brenda, What a lovely comment. Thanks for sharing this about your mom, your garden and your love of sunflowers. I've changed my little photo show at the top of the page, in your honor today!

Hugs, G

Excellent post and yes, that photo is inspiring! I haven't thought about a power symbol for a long time but will think about it again. I wonder what it will be.

I haven't thought about a power symbol for myself, but I have also been drawn to the beauty of dragonflies. My daughter and I encountered some last summer on a busy downtown street. (I called that post "Dragonfly" and you can use my blog's search to find it, if you want to see the lovely photo I found to accompany it.) One little dragonfly had the power to draw three people into a small, contemplative adventure, so maybe it's my power symbol without me even knowing! I'll certainly give it some thought now!

Hi Brenda, Glad you liked it!

Hi Sue, Thank you. Nice to "see" you again. I hope you find the perfect symbol for yourself. Perhaps you'll include it in your artwork or writing about it, in the future. I look forward to seeing that if you do.

Hi S.I.S., Love the name of your blog btw. What a wonderful story you've shared here. Next time I stop in, Ill check it out. I need to note your first name too!

Happy Week, G
