We All Need Heroes!

When I think of champions, heroes or heroines, the first person who always comes to mind is my maternal grandmother.

Big Ma is what we affectionately called her. Physically, she was a tiny woman; who knows how we came up with at particular nickname. Small she may have been in stature but not when it came to character and a very big heart (of gold).

Here's the story of My Hero: Because of You

I can't say it better than I did when I originally wrote this story. I thought it's an appropriate "happy" topic and I hope you enjoy reading this story (or perhaps re-reading). It still brings tears to my eyes, but in a good way.

I hope you have a hero, maybe more than one in your life, now and always. If you do, please share. And let them know they are, if you can...

We all need heroes!

A wonderful story, Geraldine.
Your grandmother sound like such an amazing woman.
I know she'd be proud of your accomplishments, and as well of this story.
If I had more time here I know I could say more, but time to go.
Thanks so much for sharing this!!
I see where you got your style, and abilities from, in part!

I wish I would have known "Big" Ma, she was a wonderful person (still is!) and continues to be. An inspiring story.

Well I loved this post, and just had to come back and make a comment.
I was pretty sure the comment I'd left was erased...
This is a wonderful story. How nice that you had this time to live with your grandmother. The big farmhouse sounds wonderful, and your grandmother sounds like a nurturing, talented, interesting woman.

I'm sure she was a tremendous influence on you, and I can see where you got your style, talent and creativity from, in part.

Hi Joe, Brenda,Sel and whoever else that left comments that went "poof",

I miss my mom and also Big Ma, very much and every day. But it's true, the memories of both of these special ladies are treasures and will remain with me forever. I feel their presence always too and that is very helpful and healing. I know how fortunate I was to know and love my mom and also Big Ma too. Thanks for your kind comments.

Hugs, G

PS: Brenda, funny you mention a farmhouse, my Big Ma lived in Winnipeg, not in a rural area. I guess it may have sounded otherwise!
